Following is a synopsis of the season finale, which contains plot spoilers.

Episode 9, Tijuana Brass

In Episode 9, called Tijuana Brass, drastic changes were mandated for the Priority Homicide Division when a reporter accused LAPD of using the department to focus on crimes involving the rich and famous. Chief Pope (J.K. Simmons) declared that Priority Homicide was finished, but announced a new department call Major Case. Deputy Chief Brenda Johnson would retain her status and her staff, but the focus of the squad was destined to change.

Detective Sanchez took a central role in Tijuana Brass, when his brother was shot and killed by a gang member. Raymond Cruz, who is usually in the background, did a fine portrayal of a man holding it together, even though racked with grief. At the end of the episode the detective was sobbing in the arms of the crusty older Detective Lt. Provenza (G.W., Bailey).
