Since its inception in 1977, the Star Wars saga has simultaneously become a major cultural force and ironic joke: countless toy sales and fan fervour giving way to questionable creative decisions from creator George Lucas (Han shot first!) and Jar-Jar Binks. Yet the runaway success of The Complete Saga Blu-ray set and Cartoon Network's Star Wars: The Clone Wars proves that there's still plenty gold in them thar hills.
With its goofy comedy, in-jokes and bizarre aesthetic, Lego Star Wars: The Padawan Menace is clearly aiming the saga at little kids who aren't old enough to handle the darker storylines in The Clone Wars (does anyone not think Anakin's going to slide towards the Dark Side and Ahsoka won't get killed?). What's surprising is how much this 22-minute flick will score with both kids and their parents since the comedy translates very well to both demographics.
